Still Life Surveillance

A weathered table sits in an empty room. A surveillance camera suspended from the ceiling hangs only inches above its worn surface. Expanding from below the camera’s lens, a “v” shaped area of the tabletop has been refinished leading the eye to an aesthetically arranged plate of fresh fruit. Behind the fruit, an assemblage of wood, wire mesh, and plaster creates a backdrop for the display.
On the facing wall within the same room, one finds a still life painting encased in an antique gold frame. Upon closer investigation it is discovered that what appears to be a painting is in actuality a monitor presenting an image of a still life. The installation presents the dual simultaneous existence, tangible and digital translation, sharing the same temporal space. Both will rot in sync.
